Well, well, well. It has been quite a while since I've last written to you all. So much has happened. So much has changed. But change is progression. In the wonderful words of Frank Zappa, 'Without deviation from the norm, progress would not be possible.' Change is good. Rebellion is good. Difference is good. The world would come to a screeching halt if it weren't for change, rebellion, and difference. Seasons change, weather patterns change, people change. People discover new things about themselves. They evolve, better or worsen themselves based on their choices. But what is choice? Another change. Not a change in itself, of course not. That would be preposterous. The choice initiates change. Without choice, there would be no change and, as previously stated, without change, there is no progress. Ergo, without choice there is no progress. Which brings me to my point: Do we have free choice? Of course one can make any decision they want, but they are subject to the consequences. I postulate that the consequences will influence a person's choice, thus, negating the term free. I define free choice as, 'a decision made regardless of outside influence'. And in this case, the outside influence is consequence. Our world is governed by causality. Cause and effect, action and reaction, choice and consequence. Thus, without consequence, there would be no choice. So, we are left with consequence at the end of this little conjecture. Effect, reaction, consequence: the governing forces of our world. Causality is ubiquitous. Nothing escapes it's laws. And now we have reached another point. One makes decisions based on the consequences. One weighs the good and the bad effects and, based upon the summation, they make a decision, a choice. What if there was no consequence? What if our world wasn't governed by the laws of causality? Would we still make the same choices or even choices at all? The world as we know it would cease to be. Systems would shut down, collapse, disintegrate. With causality, we have chaos. Without causality, we would have chaos. Chaos, like causality, is omnipresent. Another governing force of our world.
Just some things about which you can ponder.
